Welcome to the Osher Center for Integrative Health
Our vision for the future of individual care and ultimately, our healthcare system revolves around introducing new integrative care models into the mainstream. As part of The Osher Collaborative our faculty are working together to create innovative clinical models of care, advance medical education, and collaborate on research initiatives. We are dedicated to taking a leadership role alongside the eleven other Osher Centers for Integrative Health to create positive change in healthcare for individuals and better health for communities.
What is Integrative Medicine?
It is a philosophy and practice of how we care for patients and ourselves:
Integrative medicine is authentic medicine - It reflects what patients and providers know to be right, care that is grounded in the best available evidence and informed by individual values, preferences, and lived experience.
Integrative medicine is everyday medicine - It extends beyond the clinic into daily life, encompassing nutrition, movement, environment, relationships, and the patterns that shape long-term health.
And Integrative medicine is, simply, medicine. - It means using the most effective, evidence-based approaches, whether conventional or complementary, to not only treat disease, but support resilience, healing, and overall well-being.
While integrative medicine has been referred to as the “new”, it also represents a return to foundational principles of medicine dating back to Hippocrates, a commitment to science-based care alongside recognition of the body’s innate capacity to heal. By combining conventional Western medicine with evidence-informed practices from across medical traditions, we expand the tools available to support a wide range of conditions. By centering care on the whole person, not just disease, we aim to more effectively relieve suffering and promote long-term health.
